Dear Summer Camp Community,
It is never too early to think about summer and during this time of social distancing and self-quarantine, I am confident that our days of frolicking in the summer air, swimming in the pool and eating ice pops at the end of the day are not too far away and quite promising.
The Knox School has taken great pride in its summer programming since our camp’s inception in 2003. I am pleased to announce that we have made some staffing changes which will only enhance the detail of programming being given to your children in the summer.
Liam Doughty has been with The Knox School for two years and he will be our new Summer Program Director. Liam has spent three summers working the kayak camp as part of the Town of Islip summer programs. In addition, he has coached high school rowing for the last five years. The past two have been at The Knox School, and with Coach Liam’s expertise, dedication and commitment, our teams have brought home two consecutive New York State championships, and two of our rowers have broken world records on the Concept2 rowing machine.
Majestic Mapp, Athletic Director will be directing all Athletic Summer Programs. As Director of Athletic Summer Programs, he intends to create an exclusive Knox Athletic Sports Program (Basketball, Soccer, Tennis, etc). He will also develop and maintain partnerships with external athletic sports organizations who will bring their programs on campus and present these opportunities to our campers. Last but not least, he will be offering basketball camps, clinics, and classes for all ages and genders through his very own Mapp Basketball Academy at The Knox School. Coach Mapp played college basketball at the University of Virginia and he was selected for the prestigious MacDonald’s All American Team. Coach Mapp has brought the Knox Varsity Basketball Program to new heights with two consecutive seasons of League Championships and a # 2 ranking in the State of New York.
The summer of 2020 will be Barbara Lagravinese’s 10th summer at The Knox School. She will continue her role in the Camp Office as Business Manager/Parent Liaison and be ready to assist you with all your camp needs.
Assistant Director Brian Thomas has been a Program Director at camp for the past several years and will continue to assist and make sure the camp days are packed with fun, safe activities so everyone can have a great summer experience. He continues to work as a middle school teacher in the South Huntington School District.
The changes outlined above were strategically put in place to give Majestic Mapp ample time to plan for a successful athletic program during the school year and for Liam to expand his current expertise on The Knox School’s Campus.
Virginia Riccardi, Assistant Head of School will continue to oversee all camp operations and will assist with staff training and camper programming.
Because we are living in uncertain and unprecedented times, the Summer Camp is extending its early bird deadline to April 30th. In addition, we will also extend your payment plans for these discounted rates until May 31st.
It is hard to see beyond the current conditions that we are living in, but rest assured, this too shall pass and there is nothing better than spending the summer on a beautiful waterfront campus under the sun.
Best Wishes and Stay Well,
Kristen Tillona-Baker
